About The Living World Quizzes
The Living World is a SuperCategory about the biology of living things: the great groups of animals, plants, fungi and microbes, how they are built and how they behave, how they evolved and how they are classified, and the ecosystems they form and the pressures they face. Its quizzes run from birds, fish and insects to reptiles and amphibians, trees and the plant kingdom, fungi and the unseen world of microbes, the mechanics of evolution and genetics, and ecology and conservation.
It is the natural-history companion to the Science and Nature SuperCategory, which deals with the physical sciences, the Solar System, the periodic table, weather and geology. It also complements the Animals SuperCategory, which is deliberately limited to four-legged land animals, so that birds, sea creatures, insects and everything green or fungal have a home here.
Every question describes a species, a group, a feature or a concept and asks you to name it from four choices of the same kind, then explains it. The quizzes are knowledge quizzes, distinct from the image-identification quizzes in Guess and Identify. Facts have been checked against standard reference works.
