About Panchayati Raj & Municipalities (73rd & 74th Amendments)

This quiz is meant for students preparing for the IAS examination and other competitive tests, and for anyone who wants to understand how India is governed at the local level. It covers the whole story of local self-government: the village panchayats and the story of Gram Swaraj, the committees from Balwant Rai Mehta to L. M. Singhvi, and above all the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments of 1992, which gave the panchayats and the municipalities a place in the Constitution. When complete it will have one hundred and twenty carefully checked questions, arranged in five packs of twenty-four.

Every question has four options, and the correct option can be in any position. After each question there is a detailed explanation of more than five lines, in simple Indian English that a school student can follow. The explanation gives the relevant Article of the Constitution, the important numbers such as the five-year term, the age of twenty-one, the one-third reservation for women, and the twenty-lakh population limit, and the points that examiners like to test.
