About Supreme Court, High Courts & Subordinate Judiciary

This quiz is meant for students preparing for the IAS examination and other competitive tests, and for anyone who wants to understand how the courts of India are organised. It covers the whole judicial pyramid: the Supreme Court of India at the top, the High Courts in the States, and the subordinate or district courts below them, together with the ideas that hold the system up, such as judicial review, judicial independence, the collegium and the power of contempt. When complete it will have one hundred and twenty carefully checked questions, arranged in five packs of twenty-four.

Every question has four options, and the correct option can be in any position. After each question there is a detailed explanation of more than five lines, in simple Indian English that a school student can follow. The explanation gives the relevant Article of the Constitution, the important numbers such as the retirement ages of sixty-five and sixty-two years and the special majority for removal, and the leading cases that examiners like to test.
