About Coded Family Relations: Decoding the Symbols

CLAT's Logical Reasoning section includes coded family-relation puzzles: a small set of symbols each stand for a specific family relationship, and a short chain of symbols must be decoded, one link at a time, to find how the two people at its ends are related -- no outside knowledge is needed beyond the legend given up front.

This quiz is built around one fixed symbol legend, given once. Every question below presents its own short, independent chain using only those symbols, and asks how the first person named is related to the last.

The twenty questions move through chains of two, three, and four symbols, covering direct relations, in-law relations, and two-generation relations such as grandparent, uncle, aunt, niece, and nephew.

Only five of the twenty questions are shown on any single attempt, so replaying this quiz brings a genuinely different mix of chains rather than the same five memorised by rote.
