CitrusWave, a cold-pressed juice startup that ships small-batch bottles to a subscriber base, builds every drink around a single proprietary concentrate. This concentrate is never sold on its own -- it is always diluted with filtered water before bottling.
To prepare a seasonal drop, the production team first prepares two separate batches. The first, called Batch Sunrise, is a 50-litre batch in which concentrate and water are mixed in the ratio 3:2. The second, called Batch Sunset, is also a 50-litre batch, but here concentrate and water are mixed in the ratio 1:4. The entire Batch Sunrise is then combined with the entire Batch Sunset to form one single 100-litre tank named Fusion Blend.
Later, to create a lighter product for the off-season, the flavour team draws out a certain quantity of Fusion Blend from the tank and replaces it with an equal quantity of plain filtered water. This single replacement brings the concentration of concentrate in the tank down to 20%.
Separately, CitrusWave's costing team is finalising a new hybrid drink made by blending pure concentrate, priced at Rs. 480 per litre, with a flavoured syrup base, priced at Rs. 180 per litre. They want the average cost of this hybrid drink to work out to exactly Rs. 300 per litre before any markup is applied on the app.
