The 2026 Commonwealth Games were held in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23 July to 2 August 2026, returning to the city 12 years after its successful 2014 Games. The edition was deliberately scaled down to a compact programme of just 10 sports, athletics, swimming, 3x3 basketball, artistic gymnastics, boxing, judo, track cycling, netball, weightlifting, and bowls, dropping several disciplines, including shooting, wrestling, badminton, hockey, and table tennis, that India had traditionally excelled in. The official mascot was Finnie, a unicorn inspired by Scotland's national animal.

Despite the reduced programme, India still delivered an efficient campaign, finishing fourth in the overall medal table with 39 medals, 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze, behind Australia, England, and Canada. India won the most medals in boxing, taking ten medals including seven golds, the most by any nation in the sport at a single Commonwealth Games. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu claimed her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold, in the women's 48kg category, while long-distance runner Gulveer Singh made history by becoming the first Indian to win two track and field medals at a single Commonwealth Games, taking silver in the 10,000m and bronze in the 5,000m.

Looking ahead, the next edition, in 2030, will mark the Games' centenary and will be held in Amdavad (Ahmedabad), India, confirmed as host in November 2025, marking only the second time India has hosted the Games after New Delhi 2010.
