Beyond the subsidy structure itself, Delhi's amended Solar Energy Policy also commits to free operation and maintenance (O&M) of installed rooftop solar systems for the first five years, easing a cost that domestic consumers would otherwise have to bear themselves once a system is installed. Alongside its target of installing solar systems on 2.3 lakh rooftops by March 2027, the Delhi government has also set a target of adding 500 MW of additional rooftop solar capacity by the same deadline, giving the policy both a household-count target and a capacity-based target to track.

The Delhi Chief Minister linked the amended policy directly to the Centre's own "PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana," describing the state scheme as giving fresh impetus to the national vision of free rooftop electricity for households. Eligible installations remain subject to technical feasibility checks before approval, ensuring that the zero-cost offer does not compromise a rooftop's structural suitability for solar panels.

Together, the free five-year maintenance commitment, the dual rooftop-count and capacity targets, and the explicit national-scheme linkage position Delhi's solar policy as one of the more ambitious state-level implementations of India's broader rooftop solar push, going well beyond simply subsidising the upfront installation cost alone.
