Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029 roadmap in Panaji, Goa, on 6 September 2026, after a state security and narcotics review meeting with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. India's Ministry of Home Affairs outlined a three-year roadmap, running from July 2026 to July 2029, to strengthen narcotics control, rehabilitation, and inter-agency coordination, aiming for a "drug-free India" through a coordinated national strategy combining enforcement, prevention, treatment, and international cooperation.

The roadmap rests on four pillars: intelligence and operation-based enforcement; precursor and synthetic drug control; demand and harm reduction; and capacity building and coordination. It sets concrete numerical targets, including dismantling 100 international and inter-state drug networks, bringing back 100 narcotics-related fugitives, and destroying 100 clandestine drug laboratories.

On the demand-reduction side, the campaign aims to reach 50 crore citizens and build a network of one lakh "Nasha Mukt Mitras." Its outreach framework relies on youth-linked platforms such as the National Cadet Corps, the National Service Scheme, and MY Bharat. The Department of Social Justice, the Health Department, and the Prison Administration are working together to raise the number of functional drug de-addiction centres to 1,751.
