Beyond its own institutional structure, the 52nd G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, held from 15 to 17 June 2026, devoted much of its discussion to live geopolitical crises. Leaders focused heavily on the war in Ukraine, seeking to forge convergence on continued support and a solid, lasting peace, while providing clarity for Ukraine and Europe on their future security. The leaders agreed to increase military support for Ukraine's defence, including air defence capabilities, additional weapons systems and interceptors, and long-range capabilities, and backed a deal to use interest earned on frozen Russian assets to help fund Ukraine.

On the Middle East, discussions centred on restoring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and the conditions needed for lasting regional stability. The leaders welcomed a United States-Iran deal as an opportunity to prevent nuclear proliferation while addressing regional ballistic missile threats, and expressed readiness to support the deal's implementation.

The summit also tackled global economic imbalances threatening financial stability, the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, and critical minerals security. Altogether, the G7 leaders issued no fewer than nine separate joint declarations at Evian, spanning Ukraine, the Middle East, critical minerals, and the global economy, reflecting a summit agenda that reached well beyond the G7's own institutional housekeeping.
